South Sea Pearls

Pearls are special. A Pearl is shaped as Nature intends and therefore is superior to all other gems which emerge in raw form. They can last a lifetime. It can be an emotional and sentimental experience that evokes wonderful memories while still giving pleasure for years ahead. We guarantee that "My Pearls" are South Sea Pearls in untreated Natural Colours. For your choice of pearls, please fill out the enquiry form or call us on +61 2 9235 1677.

When choosing cultured pearls look for lustre and orient in the shadow area of the pearl, not in the area upon which the light is shining. Colour tones should be clear, not dull. Watch out for disfiguring blemishes.

Selecting necklaces Choose a cultured pearl necklace for its effect on your appearance and personality. Long necklaces are informal and versatile, while short necklaces can be demure or sophisticated. Choker necklets enhance a long neck and longer strands appear to elongate the neck.

Varieties of Natural Colour South Sea Pearls

What is a pearl and what are its characteristics?

A cultured pearl is a pearl formed by an oyster, composed of concentric layers of a crystalline substance called nacre deposited around an irritant purposely placed in the oyster's body.
Natural pearls are formed by deposits of nacre around an irritant which accidentally lodges within the body of an oyster.
LUSTRE is the inner glow of a pearl. It is the refraction of light as it penetrates through layers of aragonite crystals reflected by the core and bounced back to the surface giving finest optical effect. This is one of the most unique characteristics of South Sea Pearls.
SIZE is measured by the pearl's diameter in millimeters, with the exception of the baroque and keishi which are measured by their length. Generally, bigger pearls have more value.
SHAPE is one of the basic characteristics of pearls. Although rounds are more popular, South Sea pearls come in different shapes including semi-round, drop, oval, button, semi-baroque semi-circled and circled.

COLOUR ranges from luminescent whites to sparkling golds and blacks to peacock greens. South Sea Pearls come in a stunning range of colours. While colour is not normally an indicator of the quality of South Sea Pearls, premium prices are fetched for pearls displaying unusually beautiful orients of coloured overtones such as White Pink, Silver Pink, Deep Gold and Peacock Green.
SURFACE It is rare to find a pearl free from any surface blemishes - these are after all, gems created by nature. However, when found, a flawless surface will increase the value of a pearl significantly.
